    Furnished Apartments in New York

New York apartmentsNew Yorkers may live outside of the city and only use their apartments when they're in town. Many rental agencies now have specialties in "corporate" apartments. These are high end apartments for the business person who needs a place to call home during an extended business stay in the city.

Short term or long term, furnished apartments are a good solution if you are in the city for only a limited amount of time and need a place to call home while you work or study.

The benefit is that you can avoid the cost of furnishing a place that you don't intend to make into a more or less permanent home. The downside is that furnished apartments do cost more than unfurnished apartments in the same area.

One friend was posted to Europe for two years and rented out her fantastic studio while she was gone. The person who rented her apartment had the full use of her apartment, deck and all of the electronics that she left behind. When she returned, she just moved back into her own place already set up.

Make sure if you are renting from a private party that the agreement is clear. What happens if the big screen TV breaks while you're there? Do you have to repair or replace anything that breaks - even through normal wear and tear?

If you have an apartment and you're thinking of subletting while you're out of town make it clear than it is YOUR apartment and at the end of the agreement you will get the apartment back with no arguments.

There are also places that let out single rooms, like the "Y"... these places are generally more expensive than shares, but less expensive than renting or subletting a furnished apartment. They provide a more private space than a roommate or bed and breakfast situation and can be a good alternative for low budget accommodations in the city. Make sure that cooking is allowed if you don't plan on eating all of meals in restaurants. Eating out in New York can take a big bite out of your budget.
