Upper
West Side at a Glance:
- In
traditional competition with the silk stocking Upper
East Side, the Upper West Side has always offered
a more relaxed and family-friendly atmosphere. Today,
it continues to live up to its reputation resulting in
a familiar boast among residents that "the West side
is the best side."
- Stretching
from 59th Street to 110th Street between Central Park
West and the Hudson River, the area is most famous for
being home to Lincoln Center, the American Museum of Natural
History, the New York Historical Society, and the famous
celebrity-filled Dakota apartments.
- Further
uptown also lies the gothic gem known as Riverside Church,
and the largest gothic cathedral in the world, The Cathedral
of St. John the Divine, located at 110th Street and Amsterdam
Avenue.
