The
Children's Museum of Manhattan
Recommended
Age Group
1 - 12 years old
This
Museum describes itself as "5 floors bursting with
unique exhibits and daily programs for family fun together,"
and after a visit you'll find yourself agreeing.
The
Children's Museum of Manhattan opened in 1973 with the
purpose of bringing the world of art to families in the
New York area. In the 40 years that they've been inviting
children to create, play and learn, they have not lost
sight of that idea.
Their
Early Childhood Center develops the artist in children
from 18 months through 4 years old by hands on painting,
climbing, sliding and singing. The Russell Berrie Creativity
Lab offers drop-in programs for this age group each Thursday
and Friday from 10:30am 4:30pm. For the 5 and older crowd
the weekend workshops in the Creativity Lab offer exciting
multidisciplinary programs in the visual and performing
arts, science, and literacy. The computer lab offers kids
who are 6 or older a hands on experience in graphic design
that they can print out and take home with them.
Moms,
Dads and other grownups can join the kids in many of the
ongoing exhibitions.
If
you're visiting Manhattan, plan at least a few hours with
the kids in this enchanted place. If you live here, discover
a great resource for your own budding artists, architects
or any creative child.
