"Why
do they call it Madison Square Garden? After all,
it's round!"
"The
Garden" or MSG, takes its name from its original
home near Madison SQUARE Park on 23rd Street. The
Garden opened there in 1879, replacing an old delapidated
railroad depot.
In 1925,
the Garden moved uptown to 50th Street and Eighth Avenue,
before settling into its current location in 1968 at 33rd
Street & 7th Avenue...rising above yet another railroad
depot, Penn Station.
So in
future if anyone gets into the round-square debate about
Madision
Square Garden, now you'll know why MSG is, well, round....
