Tom & Jerry
At the Metropolitan Hotel in
the mid-1800's "Professor" Jerry Thomas held sway
over the bar with his How to Mix Drinks, or The Bon Vivant's
Companion, the first bartender's guide in print for
wide circulation.
Included was this recipe for
his own "Tom and Jerry" which today remains a
holiday favorite, and perfect for any snow-covered day in
NYC...
Ingredients:
1 egg, separated |
3/4 ounce brandy |
1 tbsp. sugar |
2/3 cup hot milk |
3/4 ounce dark rum |
Nutmeg |
How to Make It:
In small bowls, beat yolk and
egg white separately.
In an 8-ounce mug, mix yolk
and egg together.
Add rum and brandy and fill
with hot milk. Top with nutmeg.
